The Asset Services Section is responsible for the grounds, maintenance, fire and security requirements on all UQ campuses. The scope of work includes:

Fire services is responsible for fire safety risk management for UQ sites, ensuring statutory and legislative compliance, and maintaining and upgrading fire safety services on campus.

Grounds Section is responsible for the maintenance of the grounds and playing fields and other University properties. Services include lawn, lake and garden maintenance, road, footpath and carpark maintenance, playing field maintenance and line-marking and repairs to sporting facilities.

The Maintenance Section provides UQ with building maintenance services - trades such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, fitters, refrigeration. The services are delivered by a combination of internal trade staff and external contractors. Maintenance activities can be categorised into the following main areas: preventative, corrective and deferred maintenance programming, statutory compliance maintenance and building condition assessments.

The Contracts Section is responsible for the following:

  • contract management of periodic service contracts (air conditioning, water treatment and testing, fire services, lawn mowing, fume cupboard inspection and maintenance, lift maintenance)
  • project management of selected deferred maintenance projects
  • specialist maintenance related projects

Go to top   Maintenance Store

The P&F Maintenance Store provides in internal supply service for the P&F St Lucia Maintenance Section. The Store has a computerised inventory control system which allocates and records store issues, receipts and costs of materials against each work order. The main functions of the Maintenance Store include

  • purchasing for the Division (i.e. purchasing materials, stock (inventory items), job (non-inventory items), maintenance and contract orders)
  • receiving and inspecting incoming goods, and goods/materials issue/return
  • petty cash transactions, stocktaking, assessing and repairing equipment
  • controlling equipment inventory and division trade vehicles,
  • controlling, calibrating and maintaining inspections of workshop measuring and test equipment and safety equipment,
  • evaluating, approving and monitoring supplies and suppliers as per the State Purchasing Policy.

The PF Assist office (previously known as Works Control Centre) provides the day-to-day processing, coordination and monitoring of all work requests on all University sites, and is also responsible for tracking and following up work orders if they are not closed out of the system.

The key functions of PF Assist include

  • logging and monitoring urgent maintenance requests
  • logging breakdown maintenance (corrective) and new works requests
  • managing the Preventive and Deferred Maintenance systems
  • issuing weekly job schedules and preventive maintenance task sheets to Maintenance Section trades-staff
  • issuing keys to contractors.

Security provides and maintains a protected and secure environment for all persons on University sites; to protect University assets from theft, damage or destruction; to respond to emergencies. These responsibilities are undertaken within the legal parameters of the law and standards set are consistent with general community standards.
