Project: General Purpose North 4 (GPN4)

Construction has begun on an Early Works contract at the site of the proposed GPN4 building. The works include several significant essential services being redirected around the site as well as the major bulk earthworks. These works are due for completion in September with the main contract beginning in October. The project as a whole is due for completion at the end of 2007.

Project Overview

Once completed the GPN4 project will house the Institute for Continuing and TESOL Education as well as a significant amount of centrally controlled teaching space. The ‘v’ shaped building will consist of five levels on the south wing and six levels on the north wing, with a significant covered courtyard connecting the two wings.

Using Acrobat Reader version 7, visit our web link, www.pf.uq.edu.au/images/ConstructionProjects/00_master_model.pdf, which will allow you to view and rotate the model of the building. You will need to use the propeller shaped icon to rotate the image.

In response to a range of environmental issues, the building will contain a range of smart technologies that control lighting and air-conditioning. As well at this, the building’s mains water consumption will be significantly lower than similar buildings of this nature due to the installation of water saving devices and a 240,000 litre water tank under the courtyard which will store the captured roof water and then pump it back through the toilet system and surrounding landscaping irrigation.

The proposed Centrally Controlled teaching spaces will house the latest generation of teaching spaces including a Collaborative Learning Centre and an Advanced Concepts Teaching Space as well a range of traditional teaching spaces.
