The St Lucia Grounds Section is responsible for the maintenance of the grounds and playing fields and other University properties around the Brisbane area. This area comes under the responsibility of the Senior Supervisor Grounds, St Lucia Campus. The main functions in the two main areas, grounds and playing fields, is as follows:
Grounds
Responsibilities include:
| » | lawn maintenance (mowing, edging, fertilising & irrigating); | |
| » | designing and constructing small landscapes for construction projects; | |
| » | installing and maintaining irrigation systems for grounds and playing fields; | |
| » | maintaining gardens and landscaped areas (eg. planting, pruning, weeding, fertilising, mulching, brush cutting, cleaning-up and edging); | |
| » | tree maintenance, transplanting and removal; | |
| » | organising plant decorations (eg. for graduation ceremonies, open days etc.); | |
| » | weed and external pest control (eg. pesticide and herbicide spraying); | |
| » | clean up of litter and debris; | |
| » | road, footpath and carpark maintenance; | |
| » | road sweeping, path and pavement cleaning, traffic control signage; | |
| » | emergency clean-ups; | |
| » | lake maintenance & local wildlife welfare; and | |
| » | cleaning of surface drains. |
Playing Fields
Responsibilities include:
| » | mowing of ovals; | |
| » | surface renovation (eg. scarifying, aerating, top dressing); | |
| » | spraying & fertilising; | |
| » | line-marking; | |
| » | repairs to sporting facilities (eg. softball mounds, hockey nets, perimeter fences, cricket sight screens etc.); | |
| » | cricket wicket preparation and maintenance ( UQ has 3 highly rated wickets); and | |
| » | special sporting requests. |
A Landscape Management Plan has been developed for the St Lucia campus to ensure that the grounds are maintained at a high standard to provide an environment conducive to the learning process.
