The current work involves visiting every space (except restricted areas unless authorized) and inspecting key building equipment associated with energy consumption. In some cases the Auditors will merely need to take a quick look at a room or space. In other cases the contractor may need to ask you some quick questions, remove some ceiling tiles and look at duct work which may take several minutes. It is not feasible to give each individual occupant an indication of the time when the Auditing Team will turn up at their door. I would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience that this factor may create. If an Auditor turns up at an inopportune moment it would be a great help if you could advise him of a later time when he can return to complete the task. The electrical contractor will be carrying standard UQ ID and a letter of introduction which will be shown on request.

The UQ Project Manager for this retrofit work is Carlos Fujita-Dimas. For further information or to raise any concerns you may have, please contact Carlos Fujita-Dimas via phone 334 61281 or email c.fujitadimas@uq.edu.au. Go to top of page BCC Bus Review

As requested by the Queensland Government, the Brisbane City Council has undertaken a review of its bus network to help deliver an improved and more efficient service for the Brisbane community. BCC has given an undertaking that no area will be left without a service. The BCC review will have an impact upon the bus network servicing UQ.

The 402 service to and from UQ on Saturdays will be axed and cease after 6:30pm on weekdays. The 414 will have a revised route that bypasses Sir Fred Schonell Drive. Equally there will be some improvement in services, for example, Route 109 will now connect the PA Hospital, Mater and RBH hospital precincts with UQ.

UQ will be making a submission on behalf of our public transport travellers. If you have any complaints, concerns or suggestions for the review would you please send them to Mark Kranz, Property & Facilities Transport Systems Manager (m.kranz@pf.uq.edu.au) before 17 May. UQ will collate your suggestions and submit them to BCC on behalf of respondents. Staff and students who wish to make a private submission can do so. Council's bus network review is now open for public consultation. You can have your say about the proposed changes by submitting your feedback online at www.surveygizmo.com/s3/1218955/Bus-Network-Review or in person at Council libraries and regional business centres. The public consultation period will close at midnight 20 May 2013. For your information the impact of the review upon UQ services is:

UQ St. Lucia (Chancellors Place):

  • Route 402 - Saturday service axed. Weekday service ceases at 6:30pm.
  • Route 411- No change
  • Route 412 - No change
  • Route 414 - It is proposed that this service would be altered to travel via Carmody Road, Swann Road, Gailey Road and Heroes Avenue, rather than deviating for a short distance onto Sir Fred Schonell Drive.

  • Route 427 - No change
  • Route 428 - No change
  • Route 432 - No change

The combined route would be operated as Route 66. It would operate between 6:00am - 10:00pm weekdays with a five minute frequency between 6.00am and 9:30am and 3:00pm-6:00pm and a 10-15 minute frequency at other times. On weekends this service would run from 7:00am - 7:30pm with a 15 minute frequency.
  • Route 109 - This service would involve the amalgamation of the 109 with the 66 (Woolloongabba to RBWH Busway Service) to create the UQ Lakes to RBWH Busway Service operating 7 days per week. The combined route would be operated as Route 66. It would operate between 6:00am - 10:00pm weekdays, with a 5 minute frequency between 6:00am and 9:30am and 3:00pm-6:00pm, and a 10-15 minute frequency at other times. • Route 139 - No change
  • Route 169 - No change
  • Route 192 - No change

Go to top of page UQ St Lucia External Signage Upgrade

Property & Facilities have identified the need to enhance and modernise the external building identification and wayfinding signage. The current signage is looking well past its prime, becoming ineffective functionally and visually as well as being a maintenance headache due to replacement components no longer in production.

Over the past year Property & Facilities have engaged with a wayfinding consultancy to develop a suitable external signage manual, engage in user surveys and obtain Senate approval for the newly developed manual.

A project is underway to remove and replace the external signage around the St Lucia campus over the coming months. The project program is starting off with the replacement of building identification signage and campus map informational signage, followed up with removal and replacement of external wayfinding signage for pedestrians and vehicles.

The messaging information for the new signage is based on audit data collected at an earlier date. With the University being very active and dynamic, new construction, building refurbishment etc. there may be some out of date or incorrect information making its way onto the signage. If you notice some incorrect or missing information displayed on any of the new signage please report it to the project contacts listed below. This will enable P&F to update the data set and make appropriate revisions to the signage as required.

The signage upgrade project will enhance visual consistency, image and amenity for the St Lucia campus with other campuses and sites to follow.

As with all construction projects, there may be some unavoidable disruptions. P&F ask that you take care around all construction sites, please obey any temporary safety, warning and detour signage, traffic controllers and safety directions from construction site workers.

We have considered the implications of constructing a building of this size within the constraints of this significant site - please refer to the Site & Traffic Management Plan [PDF - 2MB] (prepared by Watpac, the main contractor). We wish to draw you attention to the following:

  • there will be no pedestrian access via Jocks Road or via the lakeside walkway between Jocks Road and GP South, pedestrians will be able to access Staff House Road via the natural amphitheatre and College Road via the southern side of the lake
  • there will be no pedestrian access on the eastern side of Staff House Road, pedestrians will be directed to use the footpath on the western side of Staff House Road adjacent to the Hawken Building , Mansergh Shaw and Frank White
  • pedestrian access across Staff House Road to GP South will be in line with the southern side of side of GP South.
  • there will be no vehicular access via Jocks Road except for access to the loading docks of the Zelman Cowen Building by prior arrangement with Watpac.

We trust you will find that these arrangements are reasonable and thank you for your cooperation during the demolition and earthworks contract, which has just been completed.

The Centre for Advanced Imaging (CAI) is a strategic initiative of the University of Queensland (UQ) and reflects the growth in biotechnology aCAInd biomedical research at UQ and the bourgeoning demand for improved imaging research capabilities. The CAI will be an environment that brings together the skills of a critical mass of researchers and 'state-of-the-art' research imaging instruments.

The Centre for Advanced Imaging (CAI) building will be constructed on the southern side of the Gehrmann Building connecting to it at Level 2. Construction will commence 7 February 2011. Initial activity will concentrate on site establishment, including site fencing and huts.

As the proposed site has limited vehicular access options, a temporary construction access roadway will also be constructed around the eastern perimeter of Oval 1. This road will be fully paved to limit dust, and an acoustic screen will be employed on the eastern side to provide noise attenuation to the adjacent Campus Kindergarten. The oval surface will be fully reinstated upon completion of the project. All remnant native vegetation in the vicinity of the site will be retained and protected throughout the project.

Construction will continue in a two stage process until May 2013.

If you have any further queries or concerns, please contact Construction Project Manager Kim Wishart on 336 53109 or 0411 040 341. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause you and thank you for your patience during this time.
