Property & Facilities Division (P&F) has a strong commitment to safety. P&F on the St Lucia, Gatton and Ipswich campuses have a safety system that is integrated with the Division's quality and environmental management systems. The safety management system is certified to AS/NZS 4801.
The P&F Health & Safety Coordinator (HSC) is responsible for the management, in consultation with the University's Occupational Health and Safety Unit, and the day-to-day compliance with both University and government Workplace Health and Safety procedures and legislation, and to develop and manage safety management processes within the Division.
Other responsibilities of the Section include:
| » | Develop and manage safety induction process for staff and contractors to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation. | |
| » | Review and assess project safety plans for the purpose of issuing compliance status with OH&S Acts, Regulation, and Advisory Standards. | |
| » | Monitor contractor performance in safety and report breaches to the relevant project Manager/Supervisor, including assisting and providing advice to project Managers/Supervisors to complete the task in a safe manner. | |
| » | Manage OH&S systems to achieve Certification in AS 4801 and Tri-safe compliance. | |
| » | Undertake walkthrough surveys of P&F projects and activities to identify and evaluate the safety hazards generated by projects to staff, visitors, and students. | |
| » | Develop and manage a safety training programme for staff in consultation with the University's Occupational Health and Safety Unit. | |
| » | Develop and manage OH&S systems and procedures for P&F in line with University guidelines regarding reducing and eliminating exposure to workplace hazards. | |
| » | Investigate P&F related workplace accidents and recommend control strategies to prevent recurrence of similar incidents | |
| » | Develop strategic plans in the identification, management, and removal of asbestos from UQ sites. Maintain and manage the asbestos register and management. |
