UQ Intercampus Bus

The University of Queensland provides staff and students two free bus services, the Intercampus bus service and the St Lucia-Long Pocket shuttle. These services are provided for UQ students and staff who are working on campus. It is not a public bus service, however bona fide visitors attending on UQ business may arrange to obtain a permit to travel on these buses.

A charter bus hire service is also available through UQ's bus service provider, Belbaker Pty Ltd. It includes the provision of charter buses for student transfers and ceremonial events in modern air-conditioned buses.

A charter bus hire service is available through UQ's bus service provider, Belbaker Pty Ltd. It includes the provision of charter buses for student transfers and ceremonial events in modern air-conditioned buses. Belbaker have appointed a dedicated professional to UQ to provide personalised advice to accommodate your requirements in order to ensure the best possible value.

Costs

UQ receives competitive preferential charging from Belbaker. For indicative pricing please contact FleetServices-StLucia@pf.uq.edu.au.

Invoicing

Services are invoiced on a single consolidated monthly invoice from the supplier processed by P&F Fleet Services.  P&F will recoup internal charges from the relevant department’s nominated accounts.  Departmental enquiries regarding invoiced charges should be addressed to P&F Fleet Services.

How to make a booking

1. UQ Client requests quotation through on-line Booking Request form
2. Belbaker Confirmation of request is provided to client immediately
3. Belbaker Quotation provided to client within 24 hours
4. UQ Client reviews quotation and obtains approval using the PF702 form. This form captures account information and financial delegate approval.

5. UQ Client completes on-line booking by uploading completed PF702 form to Belbaker to confirm booking.
6. Belbaker Provides confirmation of booking to client and copies P&F Fleet

How to make changes to bookings

Any changes to bookings must be communicated in writing to Belbaker via email admin@belbaker.com.au. If a change results in a variation to charges the client and P&F fleet services will be advised by Belbaker and if necessary a new PF702 form will be generated.   

Cancellation policy

In the event of cancellations departments must advise Belbaker at least 2 business days in advance of the commencement date.  P&F fleet services should also be advised. Cancellations received with less than 24 hour notice may be subject to cancellation charges.

Bus charter services are offered in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Bus Services agreement between UQ and Belbaker (November 2015).

  • No food or drinks with the exception of water are to be consumed on coaches.
  • Buses are fitted with seat belts and all passengers are required to fasten their seat belt when travelling.
  • Coaches are presented clean.  Care should be taken to avoid soiling the coaches with muddy footwear. If excessive cleaning costs are incurred by Belbaker these may be passed on to the hirer.
  • Please advise Belbaker if there is a need to stow goods, equipment or soiled footwear in luggage compartments.

Intercampus Bus Service

The Intercampus Bus Service operates daily in each direction. The first bus in each direction is scheduled to deliver students in time for lectures starting at 08:00 and the last service departing Gatton is scheduled so that students can attend lectures finishing at 18:00.

Please be aware that travel time for the Intercampus Bus can vary due to traffic conditions. Passengers using the intermediate stops (between campuses) are requested to ensure that they arrive a minimum of 5 minutes prior to the allotted time.

Timetable

A booking system is in place for the Intercampus Bus service. To guarantee your seat please book in advance of your day of travel. Bookings cannot be made for day of travel but can be made for the remaining days of the week and the following week. Simply select the service on which you wish to travel for each day and "Submit the booking".

    • To make a booking log on using your UQ credentials.
    • Select the West Bound or East Bound services that you wish to travel on by clicking the button for each.
    • You may book trips for tomorrow, the rest of this week and the following week, and bookings across multiple days can be submitted on the one booking.
    • The bus also services intermediate stops (hail the driver) along the route but there is no need to select your stop simply choose West Bound or East Bound.
    • For details of bus timetable and the times at intermediate stops check the timetable.
    • You may change your selection for any day by selecting the reset button.
    • When you have chosen all your trips for the period, press "Submit the booking".

    • Bona fide visitors attending on UQ business may arrange to obtain a permit to travel on the buses. Passengers without a UQ ID must obtain an individual permission to travel before commencing their journey.

      • You will be contacted by our office with approval details.
      • Please note: If you are a UQ staff or UQ student this permission is not required. Simply, book your trip online and, upon boarding the bus, swipe on using your UQ ID or UQ Building Access Card.

The new bus contract, which commenced operation in January 2016, provides buses with enhanced features:

  • brand new buses
  • improved comfort and safety
  • free Wi-Fi available
  • buses are fitted with seat belts and all passengers are required to fasten their seat belt when travelling. Queensland Transport legislation states that if you are a passenger travelling on a bus fitted with seat belts, you are required to wear your seat belt.

Easy Bus Access - just swipe on

UQ students and staff must swipe on using their UQ ID or UQ Building Access Card. Please note: Bus card scanners only capture the card number but no personal information. This ensures that the traveller’s privacy is protected.

UQ SafeZone Alerts and Notifcations for bus delays

UQ SafeZone is an easy-to-use, location-based application for mobile devices that connects staff and students directly with UQ Security officers or emergency services during any type of first aid or emergency situation on UQ campuses and sites, providing the user has mobile phone or wifi coverage.

This application also provides alerts to Intercampus Bus and Long Pocket Shuttle users on delays of service. After downloading and registering the app use the “ notifications” menu to register with the bus service you wish to travel on. Delays notified by the bus contractor will be sent to your mobile.

  • The bus services are managed by the Property and Facilities Division and are operated by BelBakers. To contact Belbaker Bus Charter directly, call (07) 3856-4172.
  • The Intercampus Bus Service is a free service, restricted to bona fide UQ staff and UQ students. It is NOT a public service.
  • Passengers must use their UQ ID card or UQ Building Access card to swipe on and off.
  • An online booking system has been implemented to guarantee seating.
  • Bona fide visitors attending on UQ business may arrange to obtain a Permit to Travel on the buses before commencing their journey.
  • The service runs Monday to Friday: effective from 4 January 2016 until 23 December 2016. (The service recommences on 3 January 2017).
  • The Intercampus Bus service will NOT operate on State Public Holidays but WILL operate on Local Public Holidays, i.e. the Gatton, Brisbane and Ipswich Show Days.
  • The 18:30 service ex Gatton will operate during Semester 1 and 2. The 18:30 service ex Gatton will NOT operate during mid-Semester break, SWOT Vacation or Exam time

St Lucia to Long Pocket Shuttle Service

The St Lucia to Long Pocket Shuttle Bus Service departs from the Chancellors Place bus stop, adjacent to the taxi rank and proceeds to the Long Pocket site. It operates from 07:35 until 17:45 every week day (excluding Public & University holidays). The service caters for University staff and students who require transport to the Long Pocket site. There is no charge for this service.

The bus is not permitted to stop at any location between the St Lucia campus and the Long Pocket site, but passengers wishing to get off at different locations within the Long Pocket site may request the bus driver to stop where it is safe to do so.

        In response to feedback from West End commuters the first service from St Lucia to Long Pocket departs at 07:35 rather than 07:30 in order to allow more time for early commuters to make the connection through UQ lakes. There is no other change to the St Lucia - Long Pocket timetable.

There is no booking system for the Long Pocket Shuttle service – simply board at the bus stop and swipe on using your UQ ID card or UQ Building Access card.

  • A shuttle bus service between St Lucia campus and the Long Pocket site at Meiers Rd, operates from 07:35 until 17:45 every week day (excluding public & university holidays).
  • The shuttle bus service is a free service, restricted to bona fide UQ staff and students. It is NOT a public service.
  • UQ staff and students must use their UQ ID card to swipe on and swipe off.
  • The Bus departs from each site alternatively every ¼ hour - except for the first bus from St Lucia. St Lucia departures are on the hour and ½ hour - from Chancellors Place, adjacent to the taxi zone. Long Pocket departures are at ¼ to and ¼ past the hour – from P5 Cycad Building.
  • The Shuttle Bus travels non-stop between sites and enters the Long Pocket site via Gate 4 and travels through to Gate 1.
  • Passengers may request set down, within the site, where it is safe for the bus to stop.
  • Passengers that require transport after 17:45 should contact Security on 33651234. Note: there is no guarantee that Security will be immediately available to respond. To avoid lengthy delays, we recommend parking be used within the operating hours of the shuttle service.
