University Waste Contract

The University of Queensland has a waste contract with SITA Australia Pty Ltd. SITA acts as the Head contractor for all waste streams excepting E-Waste. The contract is managed by Property and Facilities Division, Campus Services.

Some bins have been changed to Australian standard colours: general waste wheelie bins are dark green with a red lid and the large cardboard bins have a blue lid. Other bin colourings may be introduced over time and further information will be made available as changes occur.

Collections

SITA collects general waste, co-mingled recyclables and cardboard. Other waste streams may be collected by other waste providers, however those providers do report to SITA.

Service collection times and frequencies remain the same at most sites and for most services. Building contacts will be notified of any changes to these arrangements. Please note that overfull bins will not be collected, lids must be closed. P&F can organise extra bins for clean outs and events if required - refer contact details as below.

In line with the waste contract, there has been a roll-out of new bins. New colour coding will be used in some instances as shown below.

In addition, P&F will be looking for new opportunities to reduce our waste to landfill and recover resources from all areas across the University. If you have an unusual item, large or small quantities of materials that may be recyclable but currently go to general waste, please contact P&F – contact details as below.
